This weeks theme for the derby on Shirt Woot is Family. I haven't been following the comments too closely as I am preparing for Blue Genie. Though I have been obsessively keeping track of my shirt's votes! YAY!. However I did look through the entries and pick my favorites.

I'll start from the least votes and go up to the most.

My little "Rabbit Family Tree" shirt design on Woot is actually doing well. I'm pretty happy, it looks like I might get more votes than my last high vote shirt, which reached 276 votes. Yay, for progress. So I did an image of happy marshmallow bunnies getting roasted for fun.

Sorry, I just find it funny when cute animals shaped like food want to be eaten. Nom Nom nom.

Greeting card sale has been extended to Midnight Sunday the 22nd! After that all orders will be closed to give me time to ship the orders. Please get your orders in for the greeting cards before the end of Sunday and thank you so much to everyone that has already ordered.

I am tempted to make some short run Christmas postcards since the greeting cards have done so well. I will see what I can whip up this weekend. Is there anything that you guys would like to see on a Christmas post card? I was going to do more Knittens but I'm open to ideas.

The Shirt Woot Derby theme for this week is: Family. So, I have made this cute rabbit family tree shirt based on these apple snacks. I had a cat image planned but the bunny one was much more in keeping with the topic of family.

To vote you have to have bought something from any of the Woot sites. If you want to buy a shirt to vote you might like my friend's X-treme bear riding an ATV shirt now back in stock. =D

My shirt is still up for votes on Threadless for one more day!

Death Rides a Pink Pony - Threadless T-shirts, Nude No More

I whipped up another shirt design for the Shirt Woot derby: Propaganda for Everyday Life. This one is: "THE BIRDS, don't park under them!" Voting ends Thursday at noon.

I am sooo ready for a new derby theme to draw too... though I do have another shirt idea for this topic. However I'm planning to just send that image to one of the other shirt sites. I need to try some other places. Soon the rights to some of my early shirts will start reverting back to me, Woot holds the rights for 60 days, so I'll soon have a bunch of images to send around and put in my store.

Time:01:46 am
This weeks theme for the derby on Shirt Woot is Propaganda for Everyday Life. Which has been interesting for lots of people to draw on but hasn't resulted in almost any shirts I'd want to wear personally. Too many toilets, naked baby butts, tasteless jokes, and the confederate flag. I just want things I can wear on my shirt out in public guys, don't make jokes about the atomic bomb, that's not cool.

I'll start from the least votes and go up to the most.

Edit: I changed my entry quite a bit. Please vote again!

I have also entered the Shirt Woot Derby #121 where the theme is "Propaganda for Everyday Lives" in which my leg cast kitty tells people, 'Don't say "Good Luck", that jinxs everything, instead say "Break a Leg."' He should have taken his own advice.

Awww, poor kitty!

Finally, I have received my Knittens holiday greeting cards and they are awesome! The printing is so bright and colorful and the covers are so smooth, they are super nice. As promised pre-orders are over and those packages will go out first but I have now opened regular ordering until November the 20th! Get your orders in soon so the cards can get to you in time for the holidays! Thanks everyone for all the orders so far!

New shirt design for Threadless! Death should have never taken the tooth fairy's pony to work while his was in the shop.

I'm just waiting for the design to be approved and then people can vote on it. =D So far I haven't heard anything on my first design "Cute has a flavor." But frankly I'd be surprised if the first thing I entered to Threadless did get pick for a shirt. If it doesn't make it to print I'm planning to send it to one of the other sites. Thanks to everyone who's been voting on these shirts and leaving comments asking about them. =D

Oh, and if you haven't checked it out please rent the movie "INK." We watched it yesterday and it was really awesome! It's all about the people who give you dreams. You can check out the trailer on Youtube. They're a super small indy urban fantasy film! Totally awesome visuals.

Since this is the second chance derby I only have one entry of mine in the running this week and I'm super glad that it's been included so I have something of mine to cheer on. Go, go, go, again rugrats!

Subject:Knitten Holiday cards *Pre-orders Open*
Time:03:19 am
YAY! I just finished the art for my Christmas card based on the adorable Sweater Kitten T-shirt design I did. Although I decided to call them "Knittens" to get away from the horrible pun I was using. =D

This is pretty crazy considering how I normally forget about Christmas cards until a week after Christmas. This year I'm offering the cards for sale so everyone can send the joy that is adorable kittens made out of sweaters. They are going to be professionally printed on a thick glossy paper stock and they will come with white envelopes, they should arrive by the middle of next week. =D

I'm going to be taking pre-orders all this week until Thursday the 12th. Depending on how many orders I get I may then open regular orders on the cards until November the 20th. After that the orders will be closed so I can get everything shipped out in time for Christmas.

Preorder the cute knittens for all your holiday card needs.

Half of the cards will be taken to the Blue Genie Art Bazaar so if you live in Austin Texas you can also buy cards there from Dec the 2nd to the 24th. =]

Also, I thought I'd give you guys a head up that the price on the Sun and Moon Cat pathtags are going to be going up to 10.00 each (includes shipping) after the 12th. But I plan to offer them together as a deal for 16.00. Still if you wanted to get them at 8.00 now might be a good time to order them. Store link!

Those balloon cats better be careful how they land or it's going to be a sad day. Case in point:

That's a nice scarf he's got there.

I've been drawing these little balloon cats at the ceramics place I've been going to. I'm working on some small ceramic things to sale at the Blue Genie art Bazaar. I finished one with the little balloon cats yesterday. Hold on, ah here it is:

DXS-small-balloon-tile

I should be starting to post some of the images I have made for the show soon. I've just been really distracted by the derbies over the last few weeks. And I need to stop focusing on them and work harder on stuff for the show since that's coming up quickly. Oh and I ordered some cute Christmas cards I will show you guys the image as soon as I finish it.

Sorry for posting this really late, at this point you only have until noon Thursday to vote. =/ This weeks derby theme on Shirt Woot is "Visual Puns", which has yielded a lot of entries of all different kinds. There are quite a LOT of good entries getting mostly ignored this week and with almost 325 entries I had a lot to go through. I looked through all of the entries and these were the ones I picked that seemed to be sadly overlooked or under voted. There were MANY more good entries I'm not even touching on. These were my favorites not in the top 4, your millage may vary.

More stuff for Shirt Woot, this time the theme is Visual Puns. Which, apparently I like to do in my normal art... even though I hate them as jokes from friends.

So here is my designs.

Catacombs, they're cats that are combs. Also their little fur pattern has caves with crosses and graves in them.

Catacombs. An underground cemetery, esp. one consisting of tunnels and rooms with recesses dug out for coffins and tombs.

I need to make a version of the Catacombs that's a normal looking comb instead of these fancy vintage combs. I love these vintage combs!

Rugrats.

This is an idea that Shawnna gave me a few months ago that I'd been working on making into a actual painting. I had stalled on the image for awhile until this derby came up. I really happy I was able to finish this version for Woot and hopefully I can finally do the same for the painting.

I also made this cute Pocketbook shirt design. I want a book on my shirt! It's the part of the shirt that you read. =D

You can vote for it on Shirt Woot if you've bought a shirt from them. Still, I thought it'd be nice to show you guys the final version. =D

Time:05:44 am
This weeks derby theme on Shirt Woot is "Halloween 09", which has yielded a lot of drama over rejections and cats in pumpkins... including 4 parody entries to date and angry tirades from all over. I've managed to stay out of it for the most part. However, like last week, there are quite a few good entries getting mostly ignored. You'd just have to shift through an INSANE amount of entries to get to them. I have looked through all of the entries and these were the ones I thought seem to be sadly overlooked. Subject:Shirt Woot Derby #117 Halloween 2
Time:12:52 am
Last day to vote on my Threadless submission!

Cute Has a Flavor - Threadless T-shirts, Nude No More

So, I finished another design for Shirt Woot's Derby #117: Halloween. This one is based off of a joke my My friend Michael Vega did in comic called "Monster's of Rock". In one panel the zombie guy reveals that he could be the weirdest guy in their monster band, after all he has a kitten in his chest. A cuddly parasite kitten!

I asked Mike's permission to use the joke and he let me make this shirt based on that concept. Whee, this is my absolute favorite design I've done to date for these derbys.

You can vote for this design on Shirt Woot here: http://shirt.woot.com/Derby/Entry.aspx?id=36319

I have another T-shirt idea for this derby but I'm not sure when I'll be done with it. I'm sort of a little burned out right at the moment.

Thanks so much for everybody that been voting on the shirts. I really appreciate all the support. I should be making my Derby Overlooks post tomorrow for the Halloween derby.

Reminder! My Threadless design is still up for voting!

Cute Has a Flavor - Threadless T-shirts, Nude No More

So, the Halloween derby has started and after a frustrating two hours trying to upload my designs to Shirt Woot I now have 2 designs currently up in the running. I adjusted one of my images of Doubt and his shadow so that the coloring went from a cool blue to a nice blood red.

You can vote for this design on Shirt Woot here: http://shirt.woot.com/Derby/Entry.aspx?id=36197

And I did some adorable pumpkins carving themselves new faces to go out laying on porches in wait. I was particularly happy with the ice cream scoop.

You can vote for this design on Shirt Woot here: http://shirt.woot.com/Derby/Entry.aspx?id=36198

I have a few other ideas that I feel motivated to do. Which I might do here in the next few days. This derby seems considerably tougher this time around. I lot of people saved up cool Halloween art. I almost always lack the drive to finish art for holidays and Halloween is a favorite of mine so hopefully I can do a couple more pieces.

Which reminds me I need to get a Halloween costume together.

This weeks derby theme on Shirt Woot is "Erase Hunger, Create Hope", which is surprisingly hard to create for but there have been some good entries. I've noticed that there seems to be a lot of cute/good/neat enteries that for what ever reason fall through the cracks. Probably the crowd over on shirt woot doesn't like the things I like or maybe not every voter looks through every entry in the derby... like I do.

So, I thought I'd post the ones I particularly liked that don't seem to be getting very many votes. Starting from the least votes to the most.

Time:03:32 am
Woot! I got into the art show I had tried out for! Awesome! I'm going to be one of the artists participation in the Blue Genie Art Bazaar along with my friend Shawnna. So, that means I've got to get my shit together and make a lot more cute stuff to sell. I've been working really hard on doing more little wood paintings so I have a few of those done. What I really want to do is another Pathtag or two and Christmas Card design. I have a lot of planning to do, I'm not good at planning. Makes a list.

Then, right after Blue Genie I have 4 conventions all in a row. The beginning part of 2010 is going to be REALLY busy. =D

In other art news I did an image for this week's Shirt Woot derby: National Parks, which is a really tough theme. I decided to do floating rocks because I really like the idea of rocks floating in the air.

But I think Shawnna's Exploding Bear shirt design is the best in the bunch! So, I encourage you guys that can vote(you have to have bought a shirt to vote... oh shit yeah Miss monster has a shirt up for sale on Shirt Woot today! So if you want an awesome shirt you can buy hers and then vote for us in the derby), to vote for both me and Shawnna! Or hell, just Shawnna! I give you a link!

Exploding Bears!!

I also just put up a shirt design on Threadless that is so cute it hurts. I'm still waiting for them to approve it but here's the link: http://threadless.com/submission/235163/Cute_Has_a_Flavor

Gah, kind of frustrated this week. I keep forgetting one of the problems with shirt contests is the whole "watched pot" effect. I keep refreshing the pages hoping votes will just happen and I have to stop doing that. Obsessing just a little much. This week I got all inspired and finished two designs for the current Shirt Woot Derby: Cooking.

First I did a lady on fire cooking up some delicious soul food using real souls no less.

As with the other derby from last week you can vote for my submissions if you've ever bought something from Shirt Woot. Otherwise please enjoy the images and let me know what you think.

I got a 112 vote for my last design so I'm hoping one of these new ones images can do better then that. That is if Shirt Woot's servers manage to stay up, they've been sort of messed up since Friday. =D

Subject:Halloween Shirts and Art Rambling
Time:10:24 am
So for Halloween I decided to make a shirt design for the "Design By Human" Halloween contest. I wasn't unable to choose between two designs so I just went ahead and finished them both. I really need to stop procrastinating so much as I ran rather close to the deadline...

DXS-DBH-halloween-art_grid DXS-t-shirt-halloween-girls-art_grid

I ended up liking the one with the girls more then I thought, the apple one is a favorite of mine. If you like either of these please vote. Vote Apple! Vote Girls! Ha! That seems cuter then it should. =D

I've been drawing a bit here and there but I seem to have some sort of had a con crash after AnimeFest. So, mostly I've been sleeping, cleaning, and seeing friends but not working. I did managed to put in an application for a juried art show thing... but I have to wait and see if I get in.

My goal for this week and next week (for my purpose the rest of this month) is to do about 5 images a week. I'm already behind by a day. I've been working with little paintings on wood much like the Fat Bee picture I did. It's weird that I have no stamia for actual media at all. I'll make all of these really complex things on paper but when I go to draw them on the wood I'll shy away from complex and stick to simple and cute. I think I'm willing to spend the time on digital work cause I know what I can do it but it's been so long since I've really worked on actual media that I get easily discouraged. If I can't finish the image in a day I usually won't finish it for a long time.

I'm fighting this malaise about art in general. I really have to have a set of goals for me to motivate on the things I need to do. I like setting goals... I'm just not good at meeting them. I was really good when I had to finish things FOR conventions or else they wouldn't get made in time. I managed to do the Catalyst folio by thinking and planning ahead. Even so I feel maybe I got burn out a bit. I'm not even sure where that feeling comes from, the burning out bit, it's like my energy goes away and it's really hard to get it back. Maybe I need to go on walks a bit more or swim in a pool. Movement of some sort makes me feel a little better. I could always obsessively clean my room. Which mostly involves taking books to Half Price Books or recycling as much as possible. I think I'm just trying to let go of some of the crap I've accumulated over the years. I can't even get to my comic collection but I think a bunch of stuff would go away if I could.

I think I've finally had enough of owning stuff I don't look at or use. >_

Subject:My Cat Pathtags have arrived!
Time:01:46 am
Oh my god, my order of Pathtags came in today just in time for AnimeFest. I hadn't mentioned ordering them cause I wanted to see what they turned out like before I talked about them. But they turned out so awesome and they actually glow in the dark! I had a set of them made from these little circular doodles I'd drawn for the Catalyst folio that just didn't get done in time. So, I have a Sun Cat and a Moon Cat. Pathtags are about the size of a US quarter and are made from metal so they are very sturdy. The images are based off of my cats when they are sleeping and stretching. Here's an image of the Sun Cat's blueprint:

He is painted with acrylics on wood and sealed with a sealant spray. Yay, I am so happy that this little guy worked out and I still have a whole bunch of wood to use so I'll probably do a few other images like this.

Yesterday I managed to clean a small section of my room about roughly 4x4 foot and I also cleaned up one of the closets. This is a great achievement for my poor horribly trash room. Like my dad, I'm a pack rat so it's really hard for me to let go of stuff. This time I took a whole bunch of books and comics to Half Price and I recycled a bunch of useless magazines and convention programs. If I give myself time to look through whatever I am throwing out I often end up deciding I could maybe possible use whatever I'm looking at even though it's been several years since I last open the book/magazine/stuff. But really I have got to get rid of this stuff. My room is just packed to the gills with stuff, useless stuff. =/

I wonder if maybe something happen to me when I was younger where I sold or threw out something... like maybe a book that I really liked and I always regretted it and that's why I have a hard time letting go of books. Cause I try really hard to not rid my room of books. I have to force myself to look at the book and think "Am I ever going to read this, do I even still like this, really you think you're going to read that Chemistry book, really?" However, if I know I can sell the book for decent money I actually don't mind doing that, ugh I don't understand my thought process at all.

Right now I figure I'll take some time every now and then to work on some small area of my room. It's going to take me forever but I got to do something the messiness it's spilling over to other rooms and there's no way I need even half the stuff I have. It's all just sitting around taking up space and most of it gatherers dust.
